Music Industry Jobs|Music Business Jobs|Music Internships

The net’s oldest music business advice site.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! Hi all, A quick little message to let everyone know that I have re-launched MusicIndustryJobs.com. Previously it had only one page of music business job and internship listings that required quite a bit of searching on your part. To reduce the workload a bit, I’ve broken down all the job postings into a few different categories that cover music jobs in film, touring, band management, record labels, music gigs, etc. I’ve also created search categories and done the preliminary job searching for you for every state in the US, and am currently working on expanding the search listings to Europe and Asia as well. We also have a separate internship category as well. You can apply to most jobs directly from the site. . .usually there is a link, or an email address to send a resume. It’s a pretty sweet tool that I hope you’ll mention to any of your friends who are interested in an... Read the rest of this entry »

As I mention in my book, music isn’t just about promotion, publicity and artist management. There are SO many opportunities in music its insane really. . .so please don’t limit yourself to the few that are the most apparent. I’ve listed out just a few of the music jobs I see in this video: Grips Riggers Lights Dance Coordinator Sound Production Licensing Promotion Art Direction Session/Touring Musicians Acrobatic Training Video Production . . .and tons more. . . As most of my reading audience is in college or getting ready to go to university, I thought these few links might help courtesy of Lifehacker. They’re all non-partisan and should serve to help you if you’re undecided, or think you might be leaning a certain way, but aren’t sure as to why, or even if you’re correct. I particularly liked Select Smart’s “Compare the Candidates” link. It’s interesting to note that even in tight-knit families political persuasions can run deep on completely different issues, so because your parents, brothers and sisters might believe in one way of looking... Read the rest of this entry »

Sorry about the feedburner re-send. Hi Guys, this is Doc. Don’t know why you got another email today from SAE Atlanta. I posted it way back from July. I’ll look into what’s happening, and let you know. Thanks, and sorry again for the intrusion. Check out our new Music Industry Jobs and Internships board at MusicIndustryJobs.com It’s FREE! Howdy, folks. I’ve finally taken the step of creating some video content for everyone using some of the many new tools I love to play with on a daily basis that help me retain my productivity goals. So, for this first tutorial of sorts, I’ll walk you through some of the better ways to search for things using Google. Just by looking at the analytics for the site’s visitors it’s easy to see that many of those who land on the site do so by using “general” search techniques in Google. This is fine for really generic searches, but for the types of searches you really should be doing to help you find a career in entertainment, general searches are not enough. So sit back and enjoy (hopefully!) this quick little lesson in advanced Google search techniques for your job search and employ some of them this week as you’re looking for a gig. I’m sure... Read the rest of this entry »

Cold calling your way to your next dream job

Posted by dockane On September - 24 - 20082 COMMENTS

Cold calling is the life-blood of the economy, and no matter what people will tell you throughout your life, it absolutely, positively works. I use it each and every day to bring business into my firm, and it is what got me each of my initial gigs in the music industry as well. If you listened to the Tim Ferris and Derek Sivers interview below, you also learned how Derek turned a few cold calls into some big money for himself and proved how easily it can be done. The same goes for you. Getting a job at a record label, or with a band is so much easier, when you pick up the phone. Chuck email for once, and try it out. It can make all the difference in the world. Trust me. If you’re not sure how to go about cold calling, or has a friend or relative that could use a boost in their own cold calling efforts, you should take a look at a course my friend Wendy Weiss offers. She is among the best cold calling teachers you’ll find, and I have used her products myself to help boost... Read the rest of this entry »

Frequent readers might have caught on that I really dig Tim Ferriss’ ideas on productivity, and what he refers to as “lifestyle design”. In fact, he’s even got a running spot on my blogroll. His book, “The 4-Hour Workweek”, has been on the bestseller list forever and it has been published in 39 different languages at last count. It is a must-read if you’re serious about achieving your dreams. His own blog post today was a great primer about his philosophy, and it comes complete with a video of him and Derek Sivers of CDBaby chatting about themes in the book as they related to life and specifically, the music industry, music marketing, selling your cds and booking gigs. It runs about an hour and 20 minutes. . put your speakers on and do a few other things if you don’t have the time to sit and listen to the whole thing. There are some great... Read the rest of this entry »

For today, I wanted to introduce you quickly to a tool that will knock your socks off and save you tons of time searching for internships and jobs in music via Monster.com or CareerBuilder.com. Each site is great on its own, but a much more powerful way to search for gigs is by using the only tool I use when looking for jobs for friends, etc. What it does is gather job listings from all sorts of sites from around the world as they are posted. So if you’re looking for a music internship in New York, LA or Nashville, but don’t know the local newspaper websites, or just don’t want to login to Craigslist jobs site, then go... Read the rest of this entry »
